Flamenco Showcase of the Zambra Mora with Cynthia Yang

Zambra Mora  is a style of flamenco dance, with a Moorish influence.

It is believed that the zambra is a continuation of earlier Morisco styles of dance. It became typical during wedding ceremonies, although nowadays it is particularly commonly danced for tourists in the caves of Sacromonte (Granada) and in the caves of Almería. In modern times, it has been espoused by flamenco dancers Carmen AmayaLola Flores, and Puela Lunaris.

Maria Morca, born into a family of musicians and dancers, started dancing at an early age.  Her training of Oriental and Interpretive dance began when she became a protégé of the Ruth St. Denis Foundation in Hollywood. She has an extensive background in ballet, classical Spanish, Flamenco and many other ethnic dance forms.

Maria has been a professional dancer since the age of nineteen, has toured the United States and Canada, and has performed on stage and in nightclubs all over the continent. For over 25 years she has taught this amazing dance style and is pleased to showcase her student Cynthia Yang.

Cynthia will be highlighting the beautiful Zambra Mora dance during the Happy Hour break at 7 PM. This is fast becoming a lost art, so let’s celebrate this beautiful dance style as Cynthia brings it into the future!
